More people will leave Vermont than move into Vermont between the summer of 2024 and 2025, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
During this time, approximately 700 residents left Green Mountain for other states on the line. Taking into account births, deaths and international migration, Vermont’s total population decreased by 1,858 people.
Data show that from a regional perspective, the Northeast experienced a net loss of 205,552 domestic immigrants.

Vermont Domestic and International Net Migration 2024-2025
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, from July 1, 2024 to July 1, 2025, Vermont had a net domestic migration of -726 people, with 726 more people moving out of the state than moving into it.
Meanwhile, net international migration to the state was 623, with 623 more people moving into Vermont from abroad than leaving the state.
According to U.S. Census data, Vermont’s total population is approximately 645,000.
