Monster Hunter Wilds Sells 10 Million Copies, Sets Capcom’s First-Month Sales Record

Capcom announced on Monday that cross-platform sales of “Monster Hunter Wilds” have exceeded 10 million copies. The action RPG hit the sales milestone within a month of its launch on February 28. The game also currently sets Capcom’s first-month sales record, the company said. The launch of Monster Hunter Wilds exceeded expectations, with the game selling over 8 million copies in just three days, making it the fastest-selling game in Capcom history.

“Monster Hunter Wilderness” sales exceed 10 million copies

Capcom announced Monster Hunter Wilder’s latest sales milestone in a press release on Monday, confirming that the game broke the company’s first-month sales record “by combining the appeal of the series with new elements.”

“The game provides an environment where a wider range of players can enjoy the game while introducing the series’ first-ever cross-platform play, with a simultaneous release on Playstation 5 systems, Xbox Series X|S and PC,” the company said.

“Additionally, the introduction of new focus mode mechanics and the implementation of seamless movement between settlements and ecosystems provide a more immersive gaming experience, while the integration of numerous new elements with the appeal of Monster Hunter also brings great excitement, all of which resulted in the company’s first-month sales exceeding 10 million units,” it added.

Monster Hunter: Wild director Yuya Tokuda thanked fans after announcing the news. “We are delighted that so many people around the world are playing the game,” Tokuda said in an open letter. “To commemorate the 10 million milestone, we plan to release a free item pack for the community, so stay tuned for more information.”

Monster Hunter Wilds title update coming April 4

Capcom also said the game’s first free-to-play update will launch on April 4 and add fan-favorite monsters and a new Grand Hub (an in-game settlement where players can gather and communicate online), among other tweaks and improvements

The company confirmed that the new update is scheduled to be released at the end of May, with a second free game update to be released around the summer. Capcom says it plans to offer more free game updates for Monster Hunter Wilds.

The first free game update also improves game stability on PC. Players on Steam are reporting a series of technical issues with Monster Hunter Wilds. According to the game director’s letter, some of these issues, including reduced VRAM usage and an upgrade to the DirectStorage version on Steam, will be addressed in an update to the game later this week. “These should improve stability across the board for our PC players,” Tokuda said.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X on February 28, and surpassed 1 million concurrent players on Steam on launch day. The action role-playing game has become the fifth most popular game of all time for the platform. Capcom announced last month that Monster Hunter Wildlands had sold more than 8 million copies in just three days after its release.
