Chinese phone maker Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM to select devices, starting with Redmi Note 4, Mi Max 2, Mi 5s, Mi MIX 2, Mi 6 and Redmi 4X (launched as Redmi 4 in India). Mi Max, Mi Max Prime, Mi MIX 2, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Mi MIX, and Mi 5 have also started receiving the update over-the-air. Through OTA update method, users need to wait patiently for notification. They can even check the Updater app to see if the update has arrived. However, for those who are impatient, here is the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM download link and flashing method.
Here’s how to download and install MIUI 9 on your Xiaomi smartphone:
Before starting the flashing process, Xiaomi users should ensure that the battery charge is above 60% and should back up apps and multimedia content to ensure safety. Xiaomi smartphone users need to download the Recovery or Fastboot package depending on the ROM version. If you are running a Developer ROM, download the recovery package with a .zip extension, or those running a Stable ROM should download the Fastboot package with a .tgz extension.

Quick start method
1) Back up your smartphone and download Fastboot ROM.
2) User must unlock the bootloader before fastbooting. Please visit this page for more information on how to do this.
3) After unlocking the bootloader, you need to enter fastboot mode. To do this, turn off your device and then press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time. It should boot the phone through the quickstart screen.
3) User can connect the phone to PC via USB and click the refresh button in the refresh tool app and it should show the device ID. If not, install the Mi PC Suite and drivers posted here. Extract the downloaded fastboot ROM to a folder on your PC.
4) Open the MiFlash tool and select All clean in the lower right corner.
5) Click choose Browse to the folder where you extracted the Fastboot ROM and click flash
6) It will start refreshing the phone, which will take about 3-5 minutes, depending on the PC and device. Users should note that the device cannot be removed while flashing.
7) The device will reboot and display MIUI 9.
How to restore ROM
1) Back up your smartphone and download Recovery ROM to your device. Put it into internal memory.
2) Open the Updater application and click on the menu in the upper right corner and click on Select Update Package.
3) Select the downloaded ROM and click OK. Wait for the process to complete and click Restart.
4) The device will reboot with MIUI 9.
