Here are the top five things to watch today at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics:
1. U.S. mixed doubles first curling semifinal
“Survival” is the best word to describe Corey Thiers and Corey Dropkin’s back-to-back wins over Estonia and Sweden in Sunday’s round-robin play. After a record 4-0 start heading into Saturday’s match, the American mixed doubles pair suffered back-to-back losses to undefeated Great Britain and previously winless South Korea.
Team USA is back on track Sunday. They defeated Estonia’s Marie Kaldevi and Harry Riel and Sweden’s Isabella and Rasmus Vrana to reach the semifinals for the first time in team history.

The Americans entered Monday in second place at 6-2, behind Britain’s Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Moua, who were 7-0. Tiers and Dropkin will also play a round-robin match against Italy before the semi-finals later in the day.
2. Can Hilary Knight break the Olympic scoring record against Switzerland?
The U.S. women’s hockey team got off to a strong start as they improved to 2-0 and 1-1 against Switzerland on Monday. Only Sweden (3-0) has a better record. The American team has a balanced offense in every game, scoring 5 goals per game.
Hilary Knight made history in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Finland, tying the Olympic record for most goals in U.S. women’s hockey history with 14 goals. It was her second goal of this Olympics and it was only a matter of time before she broke that record, with more to come.

3. Madison Chalke and Evan Bates aim to convert three consecutive world titles into Olympic gold
Team USA duo Madison Chalk and Evan Bates will continue their dominance heading into the rhythm dance portion of Monday’s individual ice dance competition. They had top scores in the rhythm dance and free dance portions of the team competition on Friday and Saturday, helping the U.S. win the gold medal on Sunday.
While Jock and Bates have won three consecutive world championships, they have no individual Olympic medals, with only podium finishes at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Games.
4. Erin Jackson, Brittany Bowe look forward to speed skating medals
U.S. speed skaters Erin Jackson and Brittany Bowe will try to medal again in the women’s 1,000 meters at this year’s Winter Olympics, starting on Monday. Jackson won the 500m gold in 2022, while Bowe won bronze in 2022 (1000m) and 2018 (team pursuit).

It’s a Special Olympics for old friends Jackson and Bowe. Jackson, 33, was the American flag bearer at the opening ceremony. This will be the last time the 37-year-old Bowe will participate in the Winter Olympics.
5. One of Team USA’s youngest competitors is looking to make a name for herself
Avery Krumme, 17, qualified for Monday’s women’s freeski slopestyle finals by finishing fourth in qualifying. She is expected to become the first American to win a medal in the event’s history.
Krum was born in Canada and switched nationality in 2024 to represent the United States.

But she will have to compete with Gu Ailin, who was born in the United States but competes for China. Gu is the most popular silver medalist in Beijing.
