On Friday morning, Michigan State athletics announced a landmark donation of $401 million.
The gift comes from Greg Williams, Grand Rapids-based founder and CEO of Acrisure. According to the university, $290 million will directly support MSU Athletics’ For Sparta program, and another $100 million will help fund Spartan Ventures, the school’s NIL program.

Williams has been a long-time supporter of MSU athletics, and in this new era of college athletics, he has done nothing but surpass what he has now achieved with his greatest gift ever to the university.
“This commitment reflects our belief that we should give back to our community…and the place we call home. Not only is MSU a representative of our community, the health and well-being of East Lansing depends on MSU’s flourishing and success. In that regard, we are proud and fortunate to support MSU’s leadership and its ambitious vision for the future,” said Greg and Dawn Williams. “Our family’s fondest and most intimate memories revolve around MSU athletics, so these funds are perfectly appropriate to support an institution that makes such a meaningful contribution to our lives.”
In a press release issued by the school, MSU President Kevin Guskieicz and AD J Batt issued a statement regarding the gift.

Guskiewicz. “We are deeply grateful for this historic commitment, which will strengthen our academic mission and support our student-athletes in meaningful, lasting ways. Their investment in the future of the university and Spartan athletics reflects a bold, shared vision for excellence and innovation. This moment will have a profound impact on generations of Spartans, and we are honored by their confidence in MSU.”
