Where do horned eagles usually live?
The harpy eagle is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. Their historical range ranged from southern Mexico through parts of Central America to South America, including countries such as Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina. Today, however, they have become rarer in some parts of the region due to habitat loss and hunting pressure.
These birds live primarily in lowland rainforests, spending most of their time in the canopy and emergent trees. They nest in trees high above the forest floor, which provides them with a vantage point from which to spot prey. Horned eagles generally avoid areas with high levels of human disturbance. In the wild, they can live for decades.
