A man has been given two consecutive life sentences for attacking a pregnant acquaintance last year and slashing a man who tried to intervene.
On August 6, 2024, Marysville Police responded to the area of 44th Dr NE near Levin Road for a report that a man assaulted a woman in a vehicle.
The victim was approximately 5.5 months pregnant at the time.
Marysville Police (MPD) said Jeffrey Hammons punched her in the face multiple times, grabbed her by the hair, and strangled her. MPD said he also threatened her with a knife, saying he would kill her and her unborn child.
A neighbor saw part of the attack and tried to intervene by opening the locked car door. Fortunately, the victim was eventually able to open the door and good Samaritans pulled her to safety, according to the Marysville Police Department.
However, MPD said Hammons then got into the driver’s seat, tried to chase them and stabbed the Good Samaritan in the arm during the struggle before speeding away.
The person who intervened required six stitches for the stab wound.
Hammons later tried to elude police by driving onto railroad tracks in Arlington, but his car became stuck there. He ran away but was later caught by the Arlington Police Department, according to MPD.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail and later charged with three felony counts of second-degree assault and harassment.
On September 10 this year, he was found guilty of all four of the above charges.
In October, he was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences without the possibility of parole because of his habitual offender status. Hammons has a criminal record dating back to at least 1989.
