The Seattle Mariners have yet to have the season they hoped for, sitting at 14-16. There are several factors at play, but ultimately it’s just the Mariners not doing enough offensively to be the team they want to be.

At times, the Mariners offense looked like one of the best in baseball, and at other times, they struggled in the ways some expected heading into the season.

Simply put, the Mariners could use a few more pops, which is why Sports Illustrated’s recent trade proposal isn’t the worst idea.

Seattle Receivers: Dominic Smith

Atlanta receives: Dominic Canzone

“In the proposed trade, Atlanta and Seattle have agreed to a simple player-for-player exchange that addresses a significant need for both parties. Canzone will join a star-studded roster that includes the likes of Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acuña Jr. The outfield provides a reliable left-handed bat, on the other hand, with Dominic Smith being transferred to the Mariners, who have found a reliable bat in both corners of the infield to support the likes of Julio Rodriguez,” Sports Illustrated’s Ethen Hutton. Hutton) wrote.

While this trade isn’t terrible, I also think it’s fair to say that Canzone wasn’t a bad player in Seattle.

He’s batting .279 this year with three homers and striking out 13 in 61 at-bats.

A year ago, he hit .300 in 82 games, including 243 at-bats. As for Smith, if I were Seattle, I’d probably pass on this.
