March Madness Bracketology: Big Ten dominates NCAA Tournament projection as Purdue slides

With four teams in the top three, the Big Ten continues to dominate in the latest edition of USA TODAY Sports.

But Big Ten heavyweight Purdue dropped to the No. 4 seed after losing its third straight game to Indiana University 72-67 on Tuesday night. The Boilermakers are currently 7-3 in conference play, two games behind tied leaders Michigan State, Illinois-Nebraska and Michigan State.

The updated rankings find a spot for the Indians, who have bounced back from a four-game losing streak to win two in a row to climb to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in league play.

The Wolverines remain in first place, joined by Arizona, Duke and Connecticut. Nebraska and Illinois were second, while Michigan was third.

Purdue was supplanted at No. 3 by Texas Tech, which improved to 16-4 after a five-game winning streak that included games against BYU and Houston.

A subtle change has occurred in the SEC. Auburn and Kentucky swap spots, with the Tigers moving into seventh place after winning four straight games and the always-puzzling Wildcats falling to eighth after a 25-point loss to Vanderbilt on Tuesday night.
