Man shoots woman in face at Orange County Wawa after she offered ride, detectives say

A 20-year-old man was arrested after allegedly shooting a woman in the face in a Wawa parking lot in Orange County on February 1. The victim told detectives she tried to give him a ride because of the cold weather, and Jameson Delva was identified as the suspect.

The shooting happened around 12:50 a.m. at the Wawa at 12083 South Orange Blossom Trail. The victim, who was in stable condition at a local emergency room before being transferred to the intensive care unit, told investigators she recognized Delva as her old friend and “little brother,” who allegedly fired three to five rounds into her car.

A detective from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office spoke with the victim at Osceola Regional Medical Center. Because she was injured and unable to speak, she typed her statement on the detective’s cell phone. “I worked at the Red Dragon Smoker ahop. I was going home with my girlfriend, my childhood friend, and we were leaving Wawa and my other friend named Jameson was leaving Wawa at the same time. So I rolled down my window and told me what was going on and I guess he didn’t know who I was and I told him three times but he was super blind so I think he just thought it was the wrong person and shot me,” the victim wrote.

The victim explained that she had been close to Delva since 2022 and had known him since they rode the same high school bus. She describes their relationship as one in which she serves as a mentor. “I always tried to take care of him. I was even willing to spend money on his books. I was his ‘big sister,'” she wrote. She recognized Delva’s detective photo as the man who shot her.

Victim 2, the driver of the vehicle and the victim’s girlfriend, told officers she had known Delva for approximately six months. She said Delva was a regular at the smoke shop where she and the victim both worked. She noted that Delva lived on Turmeric Avenue, across the street from Wawa where the incident occurred.

Victim Two described how Delva approached the driver’s side of the car after inflating the tires. The victim tried to give him a ride, but when they rolled down the window, the man pulled out his weapon, she said. “Jameson pulled out a black handgun from his waistband and fired three or five shots into the vehicle,” Victim No. 2 said. Then she drove directly to the emergency room.

A backseat passenger, Victim 3, had contacted the victim earlier that night asking for a ride home to avoid the cold weather. He told investigators the victim called the suspect “James” before the shooting began.

Investigators and deputies searched the Wawa parking lot and adjacent businesses, where they located and collected three 9 mm shell casings. Wawa surveillance video shows a man matching Delva’s description entering the store at 12:30 p.m. and making the transaction eight minutes later. The video shows the man walking up to the victim’s blue car at 12:42 a.m. before the car quickly exits the parking lot.

Forensic teams processed the victim’s vehicle after it was towed and recovered a pellet from inside the vehicle.

Based on witness statements and video evidence, detectives identified Delva and obtained a search warrant for his residence on Turmeric Avenue.
