Man ran down family out for a walk before opening fire, killing child, police say

Delta Air Lines TWP. — The man in custody after a violent incident on February 13 drove a car into a family walking and then got out and opened fire, killing a young child and injuring three others.

The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook update on February 15 that they found four victims while responding to an incident in the area of ​​Green Meadows Drive and Farmstead Lane in town around 5:30 p.m.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by the suspect struck a family who was out for a walk,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “The suspect then exited the vehicle and opened fire. A bystander who attempted to help was also struck and seriously injured.”

The Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the age or gender of the child who was killed, but said a 72-year-old woman remained in critical condition. A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman remain in hospital in stable condition.

“At this time, investigators have good reason to believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Troopers with the assistance of Michigan State Police took the suspect into custody on February 13, and he is currently being held in the Eaton County Jail pending charges approved by the Eaton County Prosecutor.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police have not released the suspect’s age or hometown. His name has not been released because he has not yet been charged or arraigned.
