On Thursday, December 11, officers were dispatched to the 7000 block of Third Street in Canadillo for a report of an assault in progress. According to EPCSO, when deputies arrived, they learned that a man, later identified as Rogero, assaulted a 33-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter and then stole their vehicle.
Rogero then crashed the stolen vehicle along the 400 block of Vinton Avenue. After the accident, Rogero entered the road and stopped another vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office said Rogero threatened to shoot the driver and passenger if they did not get out of the vehicle. Both victims complied and Rogero fled in the second stolen vehicle.
EPCSO’s Fugitive Apprehension Team investigated Rojero’s whereabouts and deputies learned he was wanted on two counts of robbery, assault, domestic violence, obstruction of breathing and criminal mischief.
Deputies also learned that Rogero was hiding at a home along the 2000 block of Acosta Road in Anthony, New Mexico. Rojero was taken into custody without incident with assistance from the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office said.
“We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office,” said El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “No matter where someone is trying to hide, we will continue to work across jurisdictions to ensure accountability. Violence against our communities will not be tolerated and justice will be served.”
