The Detroit Lions need to keep retooling their defense.
Free agent EDGE Al-Quadin Muhammad signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ending a two-season run with the Lions. Muhammad had a career year last season, totaling 25 tackles, 20 quarterback hits, 11 sacks and nine tackles for loss. Muhammad appeared in 26 games and made two starts in two seasons with the Lions.

The one-year contract is worth up to $6 million, according to Fox’s Greg Auman. Muhammad will receive a base salary of $4 million and can earn an additional $2 million through incentives. If Muhammad plays 40% of the Buccaneers’ defensive snaps, he will receive an additional $500,000; if he plays 60% of the Buccaneers’ defensive snaps, he will receive an additional $500,000; and if he completes 6, 8, 10 and 12 sacks, he will receive $250,000.
Muhammad is now the second former Lions player to sign with the Buccaneers. Linebacker Alex Anzalone also signed a two-year, $17 million contract with Tampa Bay to begin NFL free agency.
