Last night’s Powerball created several new millionaires, but no billionaire winner

Game officials announced that no one matched all six Powerball numbers in the 46th consecutive drawing on Monday, despite the creation of several new millionaires.

Nationwide, nine different tickets matched five of the six winning numbers, with only the red “Powerball” number missing. Each ticket is worth $1 million before taxes. The winning numbers for Monday’s drawing were 3, 18, 36, 41, 54 and the red Powerball 7.

Tickets worth $1 million were sold in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York (including two winning tickets), Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

But game officials announced that because no one matched all six numbers, the jackpot was expected to grow to $1.7 billion, with a draw expected to take place on Christmas Eve.

“We hope our growing jackpot will spark excitement, joy and, most importantly, good will among all,” Matt Strawn, chairman of the Powerball gaming operating organization and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, said in a release.

Wednesday’s drawing will be Powerball’s record-setting 47th consecutive drawing to find a jackpot winner, game officials said. It would also be the fourth-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.

The three biggest jackpots also come from Powerball. They are:

  • October 2023, $1.765 billion – Sold in California

  • September 2025, $1.787 billion – sold in Texas

  • November 2022, $2.04 billion – sold in California

The game is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
