Luka Doncic has missed the Los Angeles Lakers’ last four games with a hamstring injury.

Los Angeles is dangerously close to falling into the play-in bracket, as a few more losses to the Phoenix Suns coupled with a few wins would put Phoenix in sixth place and the Lakers down to seventh in the Western Conference.

Simply put, the Lakers need Doncic to return to the starting lineup as soon as possible to help the team get back on track. Los Angeles received a major update Thursday on the status of its superstar point guard ahead of the All-Star break.

“JJ Redick said Luka continues to improve well, but they just want to err on the side of caution and keep him out tonight,” Lakers Nation’s Daniel Stuckander reported on X/Twitter. “He should be a good candidate for the All-Star Game.”

Stuckander’s report is good news for the Lakers, considering they won’t play another regular season game until the All-Star break. After a much-needed break in Los Angeles, the 17-time NBA champions will return to their recently acquired stars and try to find a rhythm in late February.

Doncic is having one of the best seasons of his young NBA career. The former Dallas Mavericks superstar averaged 32.8 points, 8.6 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game, making him a strong MVP contender in Year 8.

The Lakers should feel reassured heading into the All-Star break.
