Kyler Murray trade: How much can Arizona Cardinals get in return

One of the biggest questions for the Arizona Cardinals this offseason is what they will do with quarterback Kyler Murray.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Cardinals are actively looking to trade him.

How much could they sell him for?

According to ESPN’s Ben Solak, that number probably won’t be too big. He’s projected to be only a Day 3 pick.

Why?

Injury uncertainty

Murray did not play after Week 5 with a foot injury. It initially looked like he would return in about a month, but he was later placed on injured reserve and reports suggested his condition never improved.

A quarterback who relies on athleticism for most of the game and has a lingering foot injury that is slow to heal is not going to be popular.

The question is whether he is cured now. When did he recover? The IR tenure was more about avoiding controversy with Jacoby Brissett as the starter.

his contract

A team traded for Murray before his roster bonus expired on March 15, getting a solid starter deal. However, if a team were to acquire him as a veteran pilot, it would be costly.

He will make $22.8 million in salary and $17 million in roster bonuses in 2026, all guaranteed. On March 15, his $19.5 million salary becomes guaranteed and he will receive a $14.2 million roster bonus, including a $2 million training camp bonus, plus a two-year workout bonus totaling more than $3.6 million.

Financial commitments total nearly $77.2 million over two years. That’s not crazy for a consistent starter, but if a team thinks he’s a sure thing, it’s very expensive.

The Cardinals will likely have to accept a large sum of money (which they are reportedly willing to do), collect little in return, or release him.

We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.
