Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is making progress in his recovery from a torn muscle fiber he suffered 14 days ago against Borussia Monchengladbach.
In fact, head coach Vincent Kompany revealed at a press conference on Friday that the 39-year-old is likely to start against Union Berlin on Saturday.

However, Kompany also said that Jonas Urbiger is more likely to continue as goalkeeper.
“Ubig might score tomorrow. But we have training today. It has to do with Manuel’s ability now,” Kompany said.
“There’s always a difference between training and games. If he’s not up to par, Jonas will come on.”
“40 is still young”
Kompany also reflected on Neuer’s 40th birthday next week.
“40 is still young – I didn’t realize it at the time. But I do now. My knee had other ideas at the time; otherwise I could have kept playing,” said the former Manchester City defender.
“‘Hungry’ is the key word. Manuel has come back from a serious injury. His form this season has been unbelievable and impressive. He delivers time and time again. We are almost the same age. It’s about the mental aspect, not just the physical aspect.

“If he stays in good shape physically, that’s one thing. But what’s impressive is how he pushes himself mentally time and time again. You really need a lot of motivation to get to that level.”
Neuer’s current contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of this season and it is unclear whether it will be renewed.
