Richmond County authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding new clues in the October stabbing death of a Helms College student.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Grovetown resident Martin Louis Gordon was stabbed by an unknown person wearing black clothing with his head and face covered as he walked through the Helms Campus parking lot at 3145 Washington Road after class on the evening of October 13.

Anyone with information about Gordon’s death is asked to contact the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1020, the agency announced Friday. Whistleblowers can also submit information through the MySheriff app or by scanning the app’s QR code.

Helms College is a nonprofit career college operated by Goodwill Industries of Central Georgia and CSRA with campuses in Augusta and Macon.

“Martin was a part of our community as a dedicated student who worked hard to develop his God-given talents and provide a better life for his family by attending our career academy to become an HVAC technician,” Helms President James K. Steve said in a statement shortly after the incident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Martin’s family.”

As of Jan. 2, Gordon’s surviving family, which includes an 8-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son, is running an online fundraising campaign that has raised $10,725 of a $12,000 goal.
