Knicks jump out to 23-0 lead against Jazz, pitching a shutout for half of the first quarter

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Knicks led the Utah Jazz 23-0 on Friday night before getting shutout in the first half of the first quarter.

Karl-Anthony Towns opened the scoring with a three-pointer, and the Knicks had already scored their 23rd point when Jaylen Brunson made a mid-range shot.

The Jazz missed their first 12 shots, but Keyonte George’s three-pointer with 5:27 left in the quarter finally put the Jazz on the scoreboard.

After one quarter, the score was 41-13. Utah State shot 4-for-23 (17.4%)

The Jazz played on the second night of a strange cross-country road trip that only included back-to-back games in New York. On Thursday, they rallied and scored 42 points in the fourth quarter to beat Brooklyn.

Coach Will Hardy acknowledged that “10 hours on a plane to play two games seems like a lot,” but said all teams face difficult parts of the schedule.
