KLM Royal Dutch Airlines said late Saturday it would resume flights to Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, after announcing it would avoid flying over much of the Middle East due to rising regional tensions.

KLM said: “Based on the current security situation and operational feasibility, we have decided to resume flights to Tel Aviv from February 2 to 3 and adjust the flight schedule. From February 1 to 6, we will also operate flights to Dubai, but the flight schedule has also been adjusted.”

KLM halts flights to Middle East due to Iran situation

“Based on the current security situation and operational feasibility, we have decided not to resume flights to Tel Aviv for the time being,” the company said in a statement.

It comes less than 24 hours after the airline last week announced plans to resume the route with an alternate schedule after it was disrupted for four days due to regional security concerns.

The reversal comes amid growing concerns about an escalation in the conflict with Iran, with Tehran warning that Tel Aviv would be subject to “immediate” and “unprecedented” attacks if the United States launched an attack.

“KLM always puts the safety of its passengers and crew first when conducting its operations. Choosing the safe and optimal route is a standard part of our daily practice,” the airline said.
