Katie Ledecky once again dominated the 1500m freestyle, extending her 15-year streak of more than 40 meets in swimming’s longest event.
Ledecky ran a time of 15 minutes, 40.86 seconds at the Tyr Pro Series race in Westmont, Ill., on Friday, 41.66 seconds ahead of the preliminaries.

Ledecky last lost in the 1500m freestyle in July 2010 at the Potomac Valley Championships in her native Maryland, when she was just 13 and lost to 17-year-old Kaitlin Pawlowicz.
“(Ledecky) was ahead, but her hat fell off,” Pawlowicz said in 2016. According to Yahoo Sports.

Since then, Ledecky has won six world championships and two Olympic gold medals in the 1,500-meter freestyle event, which was included in the Olympic program starting from the Tokyo Olympics.
Ledecky holds 12 of the fastest times in history, including a world record of 15:20.48 set in 2018. The second fastest woman in history, Simona Quadarella of Italy, has a best time of 15:31.79, more than 11 seconds slower than Ledecky’s record.

The Pro Series at Westmont concludes Saturday with the finals taking place on the USA Swimming Network at 7 p.m. ET.
U.S. swimmers are preparing for a major international competition in 2026, the Pan Pacific Championships for countries outside Europe in August in Irvine, California. Europe has its own continental championship in August.
