Sveindís Jónsdóttir guided Angel City to a 3-1 win over Bay FC on Saturday night at PayPal Park in a 10,299-point match. It was ACFC’s first away win of 2026, taking the club to two consecutive wins following last week’s season opener.
Josdottir ended the night with two goals and an assist, earning her first Man of the Match honors for Angel City. The Iceland striker scored less than three minutes into the game, breaking through Gulf FC’s defense and firing a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner from the center of the penalty area. She got a pass assist from Kennedy Fuller after a fast break.
“It all depends on timing,” Josdottir said. “So, for me, it’s good for me to get the ball at full speed and then I know I can score.”

Gisele Thompson doubled the lead and scored her second NWSL goal in the 31st minute with a right-footed shot from the center of the penalty area, assisted by Jónsdóttir.
Josdottir scored twice in the 54th minute and Evelyn Shores headed in a corner kick to make it 3-0.
Despite Tyler Huff pulling one back in the 56th minute, Gulf FC could not gain enough momentum to break through Angel City’s high press. Saturday’s performance was an example of the success head coach Alex Strauss has sought since taking over last June.
“The addition of Alex in pre-season is a big step in the right direction for us,” said defender Emily Sams, who started Saturday and wore the captain’s armband. “Being able to accomplish what we wanted throughout the preseason [and] It helps a lot with the kind of team we want to be. “

“We created huge chances,” Strauss said. “It’s probably a little different than last year. So we need to keep doing that. We need to execute like Swedes did today.”
Savy King made his first start in the game after undergoing heart surgery for a cardiac event on May 9, 2025. Sarah Gorden broke the club’s record for most appearances, playing her 73rd game on Saturday night.
Angel City’s seven-game goal total against Sounders FC and Chicago is the club’s highest two-game total since ACFC’s seven-game goal total against the Houston Dash and Portland Thorns in October 2023.
ACFC will return to Los Angeles on March 27 to host the Houston Sprint at BMO Stadium.
