Jets receiver and returner Isaiah Williams accomplished a rare feat: He was named the MVP of the team that cut him this season.
Williams was waived by the Jets after a bad game in September, but he re-signed to the practice squad and then returned to the active roster and became one of the Jets’ biggest playmakers for the remainder of the season. As a result, his teammates voted him the Jets’ Curtis Martin Most Valuable Player.

Williams reflected on what a journey it has been during the Jets’ bye week.
“I didn’t think I’d get another chance This year, if I’m honest,” Williams said on the team’s website. “My biggest thing is I’m going to get back on the practice squad and do my best and get better every day and make my teammates better in every aspect. When I do get an opportunity – if I do get another opportunity – I’m going to make the most of it. “
Williams is averaging 14.1 yards per punt return this season and leads the NFL with two punt return touchdowns. He’s averaging 30.2 yards per kickoff return this season. He has been more involved in the offense in recent weeks, finishing with 21 receptions for 169 yards and three rushes for 34 yards.
It took Williams some time, but he’s shown he belongs. His teammates also showed their appreciation for what he has done this year.
