Jalen Haralson scores 20 as Notre Dame rallies to beat TCU 87-85 in OT

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A 20-point performance helped the Irish erase a nine-point halftime deficit to beat TCU 87-85 in overtime on Saturday.

Haralson hit a mid-range shot with 3 seconds left to tie the game at 76-76. He hit another jumper early in overtime and then hit four free throws to give Notre Dame (7-3) a slight lead and never trailed again. His nine assists tied a season high.

Freshman reserve Cole Celta ignited the Irish’s comeback, hitting four 3-pointers in a 17-4 run that turned a 45-36 halftime deficit into a 50-47 lead. He scored 20 points, including two free throws with 27 seconds left in overtime to widen the deficit to four points.

TCU (5-3) controlled the first half, shooting 63% from the field, its best shooting percentage in any half in two seasons. Jayden Pierre scored 17 points on four 3-pointers and David Punch finished with 20 points and seven rebounds, but the Frogs’ rhythm broke after halftime and Notre Dame limited them to 31 second-half points.

Punch’s free throws gave TCU a 75-74 lead with 30 seconds left in regulation, but the Frogs missed three chances to end the game, including a missed field goal with nine seconds left. Haralson’s jumper forced overtime, and Notre Dame went on to defeat TCU 11-9.

The Irish shot 55 percent from the field and survived despite losing guard Marcus Burton to a left leg injury early in the second half.
