Jacoby Brissett as the Cardinals’ starting QB: The good and the bad

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett is having a great year when it comes to passing numbers. The career backup has started the past seven games and is the league’s leading passer at that point.

He also has one of the worst records. Brissett has both good and bad qualities.

Jacoby Brissett: Okay.

As Cardinals vice president of media relations Mark Dalton shared, Brissett ranks first in the NFL in the following categories since Week 6.

  • Number of first-bat completions (106)

He also threw 13 touchdown passes in seven games. There are only four quarterbacks — Matthew Stafford, Derek Meyer. Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes — more than Brissett’s 13 touchdown passes.

The Cardinals passing attack is outstanding.

Jacoby Brissett: Bad

All those past numbers didn’t help the win. The Cardinals are 1-6 with Brissett starting. He has a 2-10 record in 12 starts over the past two seasons and a 20-40 record as a starter in his career.

When he took over, the Cardinals were 2-3 with a +7 point differential. They are minus-45 points over their last seven games.

They’ve lost twice by three points. In four other losses, Brissett held the ball at the end of the game and had a chance to lead the Cardinals to game-winners. He got one chance at the end of regulation against the Jacksonville Jaguars and another chance in overtime. He failed to hit a game-winning score in all four games and on all five drives.

Their passing attack is better, but they have fewer wins, a lower offensive efficiency, and more losses. So, as we can see, it’s both good and bad.
