Jacob Cofie’s 21 points, 10 rebounds help USC beat Washington State 68-61

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jacob Coffey had 21 points and 10 rebounds on 9-for-12 shooting, Chad Baker Mazzara scored 19 points and Southern California beat Washington State 68-61 on Sunday.

Baker Mazzara made 4 of 11 shots and 0 of 5 three-pointers, but he made 11 of 11 free throws and had 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks. Ezra Ausar added 13 points for USC (10-1).

ND Okafor made two free throws and Rihards Vavers also hit a three-pointer. With 2 minutes and 39 seconds left in the game, Washington State narrowed the gap to 3 points. Jaden Brownell responded with a layup and after a Baker-Mazara chase, Cofie hit two free throws to give the Trojans a seven-point lead with 48 seconds left.

Wavers led Washington State (3-8) with 13 points. Eemeli Yalaho and Jerone Morton each scored 10 points.

The Trojans went on a 19-3 run in the deciding game, scoring the first 15 points, including nine points from Baker Mazzara, to lead 30-14 with 5:35 left in the first half. WSU went on a 9-0 run in the first half and scored seven of the first eight points of the second half to pull within one.

Both teams shot 40% from the field, with Washington State shooting 9-for-32 from three-point range and the Trojans just 1-for-13, but USC outscored the Cougars 27-10 from the free throw line.
