Soda has never been the drink of choice when it comes to health, but some types are better than others. For example, if you want to drink Coca-Cola, there are many varieties to choose from, with obvious differences between them.
What happened?
Content creator David Céspedes (@dr.davidcespedes) recently shared a video revealing which of the iconic sodas is the best, AS reports.
“If you’re going to drink Coca-Cola from the supermarket, I’ll explain which one you should never touch and which one is the least harmful,” the doctor said in the video.
Cespedes revealed that Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar were the worst.
“The main problem is aspartame,” he said, referring to the artificial sweetener used to replace sugar in these weight-loss products. “Your body can’t metabolize it properly, and it messes with your brain, your gut microbiome, your whole system.”
However, as other experts have also stressed, this doesn’t mean regular Coca-Cola is healthy.
“It’s also unsafe because it contains high fructose corn syrup,” Cespedes said. “It’s a ticking time bomb for your liver. One can contains about 36 grams of sugar, which is enough to spike your blood sugar and increase inflammation.”
Even the Coke containers are different. Cespedes noted that plastic bottles release microplastics into the soda you drink, which has the same unhealthy effect as drinking bottled water.
Why is it important that you choose Coca-Cola products?
According to Verywell Health, Cespedes believes that drinking Coke does no good for the body, a view supported by experts. It can cause problems ranging from acne breakouts to heart problems.
All of this is in addition to the negative impact plastic bottles have on the planet.

If you can minimize the impact by switching to similar, healthier products, that’s good for you and the world.
What soda should you choose?
Eventually, Cespedes recommended a specific product.
“If you’re going to drink Coke, at least choose a glass bottle,” he said. “They don’t have the plastic lining of cans and typically use cane sugar, which your body handles much better than high-fructose corn syrup. … If you want to indulge, use a mason jar, in moderation, and know exactly what’s in it.”
