Is Peet’s Coffee closing? What to know about reported SoCal closures

At least two Peet’s Coffee stores in Southern California are reportedly closing, while others in the Bay Area also closed last month.

According to the Los Angeles Times, employees confirmed that the stores in Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach are closing.

Peet’s Coffee did not immediately respond to USA TODAY Network’s request for confirmation of the closing and whether any other Southern California locations are expected to close at this time.

The coffee chain, which originated in Berkeley and has been in business for decades, has more than 200 stores in California, according to its online store locator. In January, several Bay Area locations were closing, with a company spokesperson explaining that the closures were due to “our broader efforts to align our business with long-term growth priorities.”

USA TODAY Network left voicemails at phone numbers at Pete’s Coffee Shops in Manhattan and Redondo Beach. As of Monday, February 2, neither location was listed in the company’s store locator.

The restructuring comes as Keurig Dr. Pepper continues its efforts to acquire JDE Peet’s, whose brands include Peet’s Coffee. Keurig Dr. Pepper said that if the plan comes to fruition, it would separate into two publicly traded companies “to create a scalable growth challenger in North America’s attractive refreshment beverage market and create a global coffee leader serving more than 100 countries.”
