IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game finally has an official title after years of using the working title “Project 007.” The new game from the makers of Hitman is called 007 First Light and will be fully released later this week. The studio also announced it will host its own showcase on June 6, where it will showcase a James Bond game and share more details about its upcoming action-adventure games MindsEye, Hitman, and more.

The Danish developer announced the game’s official name in a Monday post on X, asking players to “earn numbers.” The official 007: Dawn website has provided more information, reconfirming the origin story in which players must assume the identity of 00 as James Bond.
“007 First Light is a new James Bond video game developed and published by IO Interactive,” the description on the website reads. “Featuring a completely original Bond origin story, players will assume the role of the world’s most popular agent and achieve Level 00 status.”
Following the update, IO Interactive also announced the first IOI Showcase, where the studio will showcase 007 First Light in full and share updates for MindsEye and Hitman: World of Assassinations.
The showcase will be live-streamed on IOI’s Twitch, YouTube and TikTok channels on June 6 at 6 PM PDT (June 7 at 6:30 AM IST) and will feature updates, trailers, gameplay demos, and a few surprises, IO said.
Back in October 2024, IO Interactive CEO and co-owner Hakan Abrak said that development of the James Bond game was going “very well” and that the studio would share more details soon. Ablak said at the time that Project 007 (now Dawn of James Bond) would be a new James Bond origin story that would not use the likeness of any of the actors who played the iconic agent in the Bond films. The executive also said he hopes the game will be the start of a new trilogy.
“So it’s not a gamification of the movie. It completely starts and becomes a story that will hopefully become a big trilogy in the future,” Ablak said.
“007 First Light” may release a trailer at the IOI Showcase on June 6. The developer may also share a release schedule for the game. A James Bond game has been in the works for a while. It was first released for modern platforms in 2020, so it’s likely to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
