I-65 South closed after semi hauling horses overturns in Sumner County

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Motorists were backed up for several miles on Interstate 65 from Sumner County to Robeson County Sunday afternoon after a semitrailer overturned.

The southbound lanes of I-65 were closed at mile marker 99 (just before Exit 98) due to the incident, which was reported shortly before 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

A Department of Transportation official said the overturned semitrailer was pulling horses and all of the horses were under control.

The Goodlettsville Fire Department said several units were dispatched to the scene, but motorists were encouraged to find alternative routes if possible.

Traffic on I-65 South was delayed as early as mile marker 105.5, according to TDOT cameras.

However, TDOT’s SmartWay traffic map shows a diversion on I-65 South at Exit 104 in Robeson County, with all southbound lanes and shoulders and exit ramps blocked.

TDOT representatives said the interstate is expected to reopen by 5 p.m.

Details of the incident have not been confirmed.
