PhonePe is a digital payments platform founded in 2015 and acquired by Flipkart in 2016. Launched in the same year, the app became the first Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based app to cross 10 million downloads, according to PhonePe. It allows users to make payments, transfer money, pay bills, top up, and more directly from the app. Talking about recharge, prepaid customers can easily recharge through the PhonePe app using UPI.
While the PhonePe app allows users to choose different payment methods to complete recharge, UPI is probably the easiest, allowing users of different telecom providers to recharge in a few simple steps. So, if you are looking to use PhonePe for your next recharge via UPI, we have put together a step-by-step guide on how to do it.
Set up UPI via PhonePe app

Download PhonePe app from Google Play if you are using Android or from App Store if you are using iPhone.

Open the app and you will be asked to enter your phone number to receive OTP.

After granting SMS permission to the app, the app will automatically detect the OTP.

The app will then ask for location, contact, and phone permissions.

you will see Add bank account On the homepage, click it.

Select your bank and the app will automatically get the UPI details.

You should receive a message from your bank stating that UPI is enabled.

Likewise, you should receive messages from PhonePe as well.

Click Continue to add and the process should be completed.
Recharge via UPI via PhonePe app
- On the Home screen, tap Mobile phone recharge options.
- Select your number or any other number you want to top up.
- Choose your carrier and network circle.
- You should see all the plans your carrier offers under the various tabs.
- Scroll through and choose the prepaid plan that’s right for you.
- Make sure you are Bhim UPI under the tab debit part.
- Select the bank account you just connected with the PhonePe app.
- Click top up.
- Enter your UPI PIN and wait. Your top-up should now be successful.
