2. Go to document > Click Protect documents > Click Use password encryption.

Follow the steps below to set a password in a Word document on Mac.

1. Start Microsoft Word on your Mac and then Open a document.
2. In the ribbon at the top, click review > Click Protect > Click Protect documents.
3. Now set the password required to open the document and click OK. You will be asked to re-enter your password to confirm, then click OK.
4. You can also set a password to modify the document.
