Houston Rockets jersey history No. 3 – Derrick Chievous (1988-90)

Houston Rockets players have worn a total of 52 different jersey numbers since the start of the 1967-68 season (including one series of numbers that does not belong to Houston assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson), and have been worn by nearly 500 players in Rockets history.

To honor all the players who have worn these numbers throughout the decades, Rockets Wire reports on the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who have worn them since the franchise’s inception to the present day.

With seven of those jerseys now retired and honoring some of the greatest Rockets ever to wear them, there’s a lot of history to be told.

In today’s article, we will continue to introduce the second of the 19 players to wear the No. 3 jersey, forward Derrick Chievous. After finishing his college career at the University of Missouri, Chivers was selected by the Houston Rockets with the 16th overall pick in the 1988 NBA draft.

The New York native spent the first two seasons of his career in Houston and was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1990.

While playing for the Rockets, Chivos only wore jersey No. 33 and averaged 8.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
