An Arizona woman says she saved her husband’s life because his motorcycle helmet set off a collision detection alert.
According to local media Fox 10 Phoenix, on Friday, January 2, Dustin Hayes was riding a motorcycle and was involved in a crash on New River Road between the Carefree Expressway and I-17 around 9:00 p.m.
Because Dustin’s helmet was equipped with a Cardo Packtalk Pro Bluetooth device, his wife, Brooke Hayes, was able to know something was wrong after receiving an alert.
“I got a message on my phone saying ‘Emergency,’ so I turned it on,” Brooke told Fox 10. “Dustin might have been in a car accident or an accident, so I was like, ‘I’ll just drive there, it’s 30 minutes away, just to double check.'”

“We have the Cardo system in our helmets,” Brooke explained on the GoFundMe page she created. “It alerted me that he might have been in an accident and gave me a needle.”
She added that her husband did not answer his calls before she went out to look for him. She then called the police on the way.
“I got to the pin drop and didn’t see anything,” she continued on the GoFundMe page. “I had a gut feeling, so I walked down the road with a flashlight. I saw his bike and ran over to find him. Passing cars couldn’t see him and his bike flew over the fence.”
“He was in very bad condition. I will never forget this image,” she added to Fox 10. Dustin was reportedly found on the side of the road in New River where no one could see him.
Brooke said police who arrived 10 minutes later were shocked that Dustin was still alive after “laying there for over 30 minutes.”
“I don’t know where he is, where he is. I don’t think people are going to find him until the morning,” Brooke told Fox 10.
She told the outlet she believed her husband was thrown from his bike after trying to hide from the animal.
Dustin, who was in an induced coma, “broke everything up,” Brooke said.
The motorcyclist suffered 20 broken bones in his neck and spine, as well as a concussion and brain hemorrhage.

His wife said she was grateful her husband was alive and expected he would emerge from a medically induced coma.
“I found him and now I can forever say, ‘I saved your life. Washing dishes, I saved your life,'” Brooke told Fox 10.
The GoFundMe page has so far raised more than $8,000 of its $9,000 goal.
“He’s got a long, long road ahead of him,” Brooke wrote in the description. “I need everyone to rally for him, just like he did for any of you. He won’t be able to work for a long time.”
She added, “The next few months are going to be filled with challenges with surgeries, recovery, doctor’s appointments, etc. My family would be so grateful if you could donate anything to help us pay for rent, light, water, everything.”
