This month, Trump addressed the nation in a nearly two-hour State of the Union address that could be summarized as: “Our economy – the hottest ever – is booming. You haven’t seen it yet, but you will. It’s going to be really handsome. A really handsome economy. I’m not usually a fan of handsome guys, but our economy can be handsome. So handsome that people tell me they’ve never seen anything prettier! They say that on the street. Handsome, handsome money.”

As Trump’s second term kicks off, unemployment falls only Ding ding ding ding That number fell to 4.3% from 4.4%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

You might not be aware of this subtle difference if you listen to White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai, who recently claimed, “Today’s bombshell, shocking jobs report is proof that President Trump’s economic agenda continues to pay off.”

I hate to tell you. I really want to, because Economic Hate Watch Commenters refuse to believe that gas prices are anywhere near the national average, but I found a gas station in real life where the price was $2.90 per gallon. Don’t shoot the messenger.

In January, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that Americans paid an average of $2.936 per gallon.

I have some good news! Inflation has eased considerably month on month, and is much needed. Inflation fell to 2.4% in January, compared with 2.7% in December 2025.

Will we see prices reflected in stores that look comfortable? Time will tell. For now, we can only hope that the cost of living doesn’t continue to skyrocket in 2026.

With the exception of the months surrounding Armageddon (aka “Liberation Day”) when Trump first announced sweeping tariffs on countries around the world, the Dow has had a rocky ride during Trump’s presidency.

This month is no exception. It rose 1.6% in January, according to Stat Muse.

No stimulus check yet! But who knows? It’s only been a year. You have three more that surprised me.

If you asked me if there would be drama surrounding an organization that publishes presidential approval ratings… well, I would probably believe you… but I didn’t expect it to be Gallup.

After 88 years of measuring presidential approval ratings, the polling company announced they will no longer track the president’s approval ratings.

Instead, we get our information from the Pew Research Center, which found that Trump’s approval rating hovered around 37% in January.

Comments questioning the statistical changes in egg prices, 2 likes and 1 reply

BuzzFeed

We received a lot of comments about egg statistics. I really didn’t expect you guys to miss the average cost per dozen eggs.

Initially, I removed the eggs component from the December report for the first time, simply because they were no longer a real indicator of the economy. Last year, bird flu drove up prices, and Trump repeatedly swore they were cheap, but…well…apparently that’s not the case. The report served as a fact-check at the time.

But don’t be afraid! If people want egg statistics, I’m more than happy to provide them.

Here are the latest developments in eggs. The average U.S. production of Grade A eggs per dozen peaked in March 2025 and has been declining since then. Thank God. I love a good brunch.

Egg price forecast: $4.15 in December 2024, rising to $6.23 in March 2025, then trending downward to $2.58 in January 2026. Price unknown in October 2025

Comment #2:

User comments question support ratings and express surprise at cognitive dissonance

BuzzFeed

Finally, this comment threw me for a loop because I couldn’t help but ask, What is the lowest recorded presidential approval rating in history?

Well, depending on how you look at it, the answer is either Harry Truman or George W. Bush. According to the Roper Public Opinion Research Center, Truman’s approval rating is an all-time low of 22%. Meanwhile, the proportion in the UK is debated at 19% or 25%.

Trump’s approval rating is 37%, still a long way from breaking that record.
