The death of a Massachusetts man remains a mystery after his body was found in a dumpster in South Carolina.
On Thursday, January 29, the Marion County Coroner said the body of 32-year-old David Hutchinson was found decomposing in a trash can at a home on Pearl Street in Marion, WMBF reported.
Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers told News13 authorities are investigating whether his death was a homicide.
Flowers said Hutchinson arrived in Marion in December after allegedly being told by a woman he met online that he could find a high-paying job in the area, WMBF reported. He was scheduled to return to Massachusetts in early January, but when he didn’t come home, his family called police.

Flowers told ABC4 there may be 12 suspects involved in the case.

“Probably 12,” he said. “I don’t know how many people were involved. Because the house he was in was said to have people coming in and out all the time. So there’s no rhyme or reason to who lived there and who didn’t live there. So, we don’t know how many people were there when this happened. If it actually happened in the house, outside the house, in the area.”
Jaida Braddy, 41, was arrested on Jan. 30 and charged with felony accessory after the fact in connection with Hutchinson’s death and is being held on a $15,000 bond, according to inmate records.
“David wasn’t just a drifter who showed up in town, or some other statistic,” his brother told News13. “He was a son, a brother, a cousin. He was an uncle and a friend to a lot of people here who loved him very much. We pray that this story has a better ending and we will miss him terribly.”
“Naive and overly trusting, but he was a good kid who sometimes made bad decisions and this time he had to pay the ultimate price for it,” he added.
According to the GoFundMe page, Sweeney Hutchinson “had a kind heart and a bright personality. He was loved by all who knew him and was kind to those who didn’t.”
