The longest snake in the world

The python was nicknamed “Ibu Baron” or “The Baroness”. She was discovered in late 2025 in a small village on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Her figure is amazing, with GWR confirming her length to be 23 feet 8 inches! She’s even longer than a standard 20-foot shipping container or four 6-foot-tall adults. The length shocked locals so much that GWR took notice. The Baroness is believed to be the longest snake ever recorded. Snakes of this size are awe-inspiring, but they can also be scary and dangerous.

To ensure the safety of the snake and the community, she is now in the care of local conservationist Budi Purwanto. She was also evaluated by wildlife guide and snake handler Diaz Nugraha and explorer and photographer Radi Frentiu. Thanks to their efforts, this amazing python is now safe and shared with the world. Baron Ibrahimovic is not only long, but also heavy. Even though she hasn’t eaten recently, she still weighs 213 pounds, the same weight as an adult giant panda. Another note in official records is that she may have been over 23 feet long. Experts believe her true length could have been as much as 26 feet if she had been anesthetized to relax her muscles. However, for her health and safety, they chose not to anesthetize her.

What kind of snake is Baroness?

The Ibu Baron is a reticulated python, a non-venomous python native to Southeast Asia. This species is generally considered the longest species in the world, with adults growing to an average length of around 10 to 20 feet. Pythons kill their prey by coiling and squeezing it, rather than relying on paralyzing venom. At Baron Eevee’s size, she is strong enough to prey on large mammals and birds, although most reticulated pythons typically feed on rats, rabbits, and monkeys.

This record-breaking snake and the news about her are important in raising awareness of reticulated python conservation efforts. Reticulated pythons are facing habitat loss and dwindling food supplies. Because of this, interactions between humans and these snakes are becoming more common, often resulting in the snake’s death. It is important to raise awareness of its role in Indonesia’s ecosystems and support stronger habitat protection and conservation efforts.
