Guimaraes set to be out for two months with injury

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães is expected to be sidelined for several months with a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian limped off in the closing stages of Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, his second appearance since recovering from an ankle injury.

Head coach Eddie Howe said at the time that Guimarães was “a little worried because he’s never had a hamstring problem before.”

Guimarães will now be out for a long period of time, which is a huge blow to Newcastle.

Newcastle have clearly lost the previous games Guimarães has played, including a 3-2 defeat at Brentford last week.

However, Howe’s side have failed to win any of their 10 Premier League games since making their debut in Guimarães in February 2022.

In comparison, Newcastle United’s winning percentage in the top flight under Guimarães is as high as 53.1%.

Their points per game (1.8) increased significantly, goals per game increased (1.9), and goals conceded decreased (1.2).

But Newcastle must find a way to win without a talisman as they begin a crucial series of games, starting with an FA Cup fourth-round tie against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Sandro Tonali, Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey are Newcastle’s only three senior midfielders available for the trip to Villa Park.

But Newcastle hope Joelinton will return from a groin injury soon, while the club hope Lewis Miley won’t be sidelined for too long with a leg injury.
