Rockstar Games released the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 on Tuesday without any prior announcement, sending fans into a frenzy. The trailer, released 17 months after the game’s first trailer, details GTA 6’s second playable protagonist, Jason. The trailer also shows off visual upgrades for Rockstar’s next game. The studio has now reiterated that the trailer footage was shot “entirely in-game” on PS5, including some gameplay and cutscenes.
Games included in GTA 6 Trailer 2
At the end of GTA 6 Trailer 2, Rockstar confirmed that the clip was shot on PS5. But the high visual quality in the trailer has some fans doubting the claim and speculating whether the footage is from the high-end PS5 Pro.
However, a day later, Rockstar clarified that all the footage in the second trailer was indeed from the PlayStation 5. While the trailer looks like it’s made up of various cutscenes from the game, the developer has confirmed that there’s some gameplay footage included as well.
“Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was shot entirely within the PlayStation 5 game and consists of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes,” Rockstar said in a post on X on Wednesday, retweeting the trailer.

The studio’s announcement suggests that GTA 6 is taking full advantage of current generation consoles to deliver cutting-edge visuals. The game’s graphical fidelity, detailed character models, and environments stood out in the second trailer, impressing fans and industry insiders alike. The fact that this all runs on PS5 makes the technology behind GTA 6 even more impressive.
Rockstar has always set high standards for the graphical quality of its games. GTA 5 was technically impressive when it first launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. Red Dead Redemption 2 released on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018 and remains one of the best-looking games on the console.

Judging from the two trailers and several screenshots Rockstar posted on its website, GTA 6 looks set to set a high bar for visuals on current-gen consoles. However, the graphics quality means the game’s framerate will likely be capped at 30fps on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Rockstar has yet to confirm whether the game will feature a 60fps performance mode at the expense of image quality.
The second GTA 6 trailer was released on May 6, after Rockstar announced it was delaying the game until 2026. GTA 6 was initially set for a 2025 release window, which Rockstar parent company Take-Two later narrowed to fall 2025. However, the studio said in a statement last week that it needs more time to release GTA 6 at the level of quality that fans expect.
“With every game we release, our goal is always to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need additional time to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve,” Rockstar said when announcing the delay.
After the news was announced, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claimed that Rockstar employees believed the delay was inevitable because there wasn’t enough time to complete development on the game to meet its fall 2025 release schedule.
“There’s too much work, not enough time, and management seems genuinely interested in avoiding a brutal crunch. A delay of GTA VI to 2026, a few months or more, seems inevitable,” Schreier said.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is now available for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on May 26, 2026. The game is available for wishlisting on the PlayStation Store.
