GTA 6 Finally Gets Second Trailer as Rockstar Details Second Protagonist Jason, Story and More

Days after announcing that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed until 2026, Rockstar Games unexpectedly shared the game’s second trailer on Tuesday, revealing details about the story, characters, and setting. GTA 6 Trailer 2 finally shows off Jason Duval, the game’s second playable protagonist, joining the much-talked-about Lucia from the first trailer. Aside from trailers, Rockstar, which has remained radio silent and not shared any information since the game’s 2023 launch, also released a slew of new screenshots, key artwork, and story and character details for the game on the official GTA 6 website.

GTA 6 trailer 2 released

The second trailer opens with Jason fixing some holes in the roof, and we follow him through a montage of daily tasks as he drives around Sin City, works out, buys beers, and then he picks up Lucia from jail, who appears to have just completed her sentence. Two lovers want a fresh start in their lives, but as we see in the trailer, this inevitably leads them down a path of crime.

According to the latest official description from Rockstar, Lucia and Jason were involved in an early score, but something went wrong, with dire consequences as they were drawn into a far-reaching conspiracy involving criminals and corrupt police.

“Sin City, USA. Jason and Lucia always knew the odds were against them. But when a simple score goes wrong, they find themselves in the darkest side of America’s sunniest place, caught in the middle of a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonidas – and are forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to survive,” the description reads.

As early reports of GTA 6 claim, the story will center around a Bonnie and Clyde-style crime couple who will leave their mark on Vice City and the greater Florida-inspired state of Leonidas.

In the trailer, we see Jason and Lucia spending time together, with the latter enjoying her newfound freedom, but with the ankle monitor turned on. Later, as things go from bad to worse, we see them get involved in robberies, shootouts, car chases, and explosive action scenes. We also got a look at Vice City’s eclectic supporting cast as well as some of the activities that might be available to players.

As expected, the second trailer went viral on social media, racking up over 54 million views on YouTube in just 17 hours. Fans disappointed by the delayed announcement have been praising the visual fidelity in the second trailer. GTA 6 looks absolutely stunning, and the trailer clearly sets the bar high for what we can expect from the game when it releases on May 26, 2026. Rockstar confirmed that the trailer footage was shot on the PlayStation 5 console.

Last week, the developer announced that it was delaying GTA 6 from its original fall 2025 release window to May 26, 2026. Rockstar says additional development time is needed to release the game at the level of studio quality that fans have come to expect.

“With every game we release, our goal is always to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that it takes extra time for us to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve,” Rockstar said in its statement.
