CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The Queen City News has obtained new video of an assault that occurred inside the Mecklenburg County Courthouse on Thursday.
A man accused of murder was repeatedly punched and kicked by his victim’s father.
Last spring, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Jamariyae Dixon was 16 when she was shot and killed by Marion McKnight. McKnight is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder of two other people who were shot.

Dixon’s aunt, Susan Sherrill, said Dickson’s father, Shaheem Snype, became emotional when he encountered McKnight outside the courthouse.
“He did what a father had to do,” Sherrill said. “Any father would do the same thing. We are still grieving. It’s a wound that will never heal because my nephew is 16 and he should still be with us.”
McKnight was held on $100,000 bail on the murder charge, and Dixon’s family said this should never have happened.
The release resulted in an in-person court meeting before a bail hearing. Jamaria’s mother, Lynette Dixon, was not present when the fight occurred but saw the video.
“My face is smiling,” she said. “I smiled. For the first time since my son died, I really smiled.”

After the attack, McKnight went to the hospital. Snipe was charged with misdemeanor assault.
Dixon said she was proud of him, though she still misses everything about her son, who was a football player and an honors student.
“Every year I get messages saying happy birthday, happy Mother’s Day, happy Valentine’s Day,” Dixon said. “I won’t get any of this anymore.”
Thursday’s hearing related to prosecutors’ motion to revoke McKnight’s bail. The hearing will be rescheduled.
The Queen City News did not immediately receive comment from McKnight’s attorney.
