Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said that aerospace will become a “twin strengthening engine” for Singapore’s economy.

According to the Straits Times, Deputy Prime Minister Gan made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Singapore Airshow on Monday (February 2), emphasizing how Singapore builds its influence by connecting people and markets.

Singapore is able to position itself as a leading aviation hub and advanced manufacturing and engineering base. “These advantages complement each other,” Gan said.

Gan revealed that since the last air show, Singapore has attracted more than US$750 million in investment commitments across aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul, and after-sales services. He expects this to create nearly 600 jobs over the next five years.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan outlined four key strategies to maintain Singapore’s development momentum:

  • strengthen partnerships

  • research, development and innovation

  • World class infrastructure
