Google Tuesday tease The company’s Assistant-equipped Google Home and Google Home Mini smart speakers will be available on Flipkart after their launch in India next week (April 10), the company said on social media. It’s unclear whether the online retail partnership will be exclusive. These smart speakers will also be sold offline, with at least one known distribution partner. Google India, in a tweet posted on its official Twitter account, announced registration for its upcoming speakers on the Flipkart app, which now also has a login page. To recall, Google had previously sent out invitations to the media to attend the Google Home launch event scheduled to be held on April 10.
Google Home has apparently added support for Indian music streaming apps Gaana and Saavn in addition to the default Google Play Music, according to unverified screenshots posted by Reddit user babanomania. If true, this could be a move to ease the rollout in India later this month. Amazon did something similar when it launched its Echo line of smart speakers back in October last year, when it offered streaming via Saavn at launch.
Android Police reports that Google Assistant will get support for Indian English in the coming days as the tech giant prepares to launch Google Assistant-powered speakers in India. This development comes just weeks after Hindi was rolled out to Google Virtual Assistant.
Google first launched its Google Home line of speakers in the United States in 2016. With the help of Google Assistant, this smart speaker can perform operations such as music playback, weather/time information, setting alarms and reminders, answering queries, and making lists.
There is no information about the pricing and availability details of the speaker in India yet. But please note that the official price of Google Home is $129 (approximately Rs. 8,400) in the US and the Google Home Mini is priced at $49 (approximately Rs. 3,200) in the US. Prices are subject to tax based on region.
