VENICE, Calif. — Gina Carano knows what to look for when taking on Ronda Rousey.
Carano (7-1) returns to competition for the first time since 2009 when she takes on former UFC bantamweight champion Rousey (12-2) in the main event of Saturday’s MVP MMA 1 (Netflix) at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

Rousey launched her career with an armbar submission, using her signature move to win nine of her 12 professional fights.
“We know what Ronda is good at — she’s a genius at it,” Carano told MMA Junkie during Wednesday’s open scrimmage. “So we definitely trained accordingly, and that’s what I can give you. But, I’m pretty savvy myself, too, so let’s remember that.”
Carano was the underdog against the Olympic judo bronze medalist but was considered to have a major advantage on the feet. Carano remained undefeated until she fought Chris Cyborg for the inaugural Strikeforce Featherweight Championship and has not competed since.
“It would be nice to stay on my feet, but I’m ready for anything,” Carano said. “We train for everything and yeah, I’m going to stay sharp.”
