Donald Trump’s address to the nation on Wednesday drew rare bipartisan approval, with people across the political spectrum taking to social media to ask what the point of the speech would be.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) led the charge in a series of posts mocking the president’s comments, which were filled with baseless boasts and little else.
In one of the articles, the potential Democratic 2028 presidential candidate summed up “Trump tonight” with one word, “I,” which he repeated multiple times.
Newsom said his online parody of Trump in recent months was an effort to shine a light on the president’s most ridiculous and divisive antics, and suggested the entire speech “could have been an email.”
His press office chimed in sarcastically:
