Garden Plain shooting linked to drugs and fake money, detectives say

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says a drug deal gone bad in Garden Plains last week may have led to a shooting.

On Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office arrested a 20-year-old Cheney man and a 16-year-old boy in connection with the shooting.

It happened around 10pm on Thursday night at the home in the far north of Garden Plains.

The Sheriff’s Office said four people were inside the home at the time of the shooting. No one was injured.

Sheriff’s Office detectives believe one of the victims, the intended target, was involved in a drug deal involving counterfeit money and the suspect followed him back to his home.

The case remains under investigation and the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office has not yet filed charges, the Sheriff’s Office said. KSN does not release the names of people accused of crimes until they are charged with a crime.
