Forza Horizon 5 is a critically acclaimed racing game that launched as an Xbox and PC exclusive in 2021 and is now available on PS5. Starting in spring 2025, PlayStation users will be able to experience the game’s vast open-world environment, developer Playground Games announced Thursday. Forza Horizon 5 joins a long line of first-party Microsoft games that have launched on PS5 since Microsoft pivoted to a multi-platform strategy last year.
Forza Horizon 5 Bundle Will Be Released on PS5
The PlayStation 5 port of Forza Horizon 5 will develop Panic Button in partnership with Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games. The game will be available on PS5 with full features and the same content as the Xbox and PC versions of the game, including nearly 900 cars and more than 40 themed game updates. Playground Games confirmed that PS5 players will be able to purchase the previously released car pack and the game’s two expansion packs – Hot Wheels and Rally Adventures.
“We’re excited to see the Forza Horizon 5 community grow with new players on PS5, and we can’t wait to see the creativity and skills these new creators, builders, and racers will bring to our vibrant community,” the developer said in an official announcement.
Forza Horizon 5 is now wishlisted on the PlayStation Store. Playground confirmed that the game will support cross-platform play between PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. A confirmed release date for the Spring 2025 window, along with pre-order details, will be announced at a later date.
Playground also announced that it is developing a new free content update for Forza Horizon 5, called Horizon Realms, for all platforms. “Realms will give players the opportunity to explore a curated collection of some of the community’s favorite previously released Evolved worlds, as well as a few other surprises,” the developers said.
Forza Horizon 5 releases on November 9, 2021 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The racing game, set in a vast open world set in Mexico, was a critical and commercial success, winning three categories at the 2021 Game Awards.
The game’s release on PS5 comes after Xbox CEO Phil Spencer said last week that no Xbox-exclusive games would be released on rival platforms. “We found that we were able to drive better business that allowed us to invest in the great lineup of games that you saw at Xbox Developer Direct. That’s our strategy. Our strategy is to make our games available,” Spencer said in an interview over the weekend.
Microsoft continues to release first-party games on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, with plans to launch Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Circle and Doom: Dark Ages on PS5 in 2025.
