Five Premier League stars who badly need a transfer this winter

Premier League clubs are often reluctant to lose players during the winter transfer window.

But January is a great time for fringe stars to put pressure on clubs and clarify what is required for the second half of the season.

Below we list five Premier League players who could be looking for a move this winter.

Joshua Zikze

Joshua Zirkzee has failed to meet the expectations of Manchester United fans since joining Manchester United for a transfer fee of 36.5 million pounds in 2024.

The Dutch forward has only scored eight goals in 60 senior games.

Zirkzee is clearly not part of Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans, as the Portuguese has only given him three starts in the Premier League this season.

The Netherlands international hopes to return to Serie A and Roma are keen to sign him. But it remains to be seen whether the Italian side can reach an agreement with Manchester United.

Omar Mamouch

Omar Marmouche joined Manchester City for around £59 million during the last winter transfer window.

The Egyptian has made an impressive start to the Premier League, scoring seven goals in his first 14 league games.

However, things have been different for the 26-year-old this season as he has only made two starts in the league.

Malmouche, who is currently participating in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), may seek to quit in order to get more first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Ethan Nwaneri

Ethan Nwaneri has had a stellar 2024-25 season, scoring nine goals in 37 games.

But his playing time in the top flight has been limited to 165 minutes this season and he was not even included in the squad for Tuesday’s home game against Aston Villa.

With Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard all back, Navaneri may find it more difficult to earn a place in Mikel Arteta’s side.

The 18-year-old could be offered a loan exit this month amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

James Trafford

James Trafford joined Manchester City last summer and started the season as Guardiola’s first-choice goalkeeper.

But he made a costly mistake against Tottenham Hotspur and the Citizens subsequently signed Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Trafford has never started a game in England’s top flight since, with Donnarumma ahead of him in the starting pecking order.

The 23-year-old will no doubt be frustrated with his current situation and could push for a move to another club this winter.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling won four Premier League titles and five League Cups during his time at Manchester City.

He played a major role in Manchester City’s success, making 339 appearances in all competitions, scoring 131 goals and providing 86 assists.

But the 31-year-old has now been completely frozen out by Chelsea, where he has not played a minute of official football this season.

Sterling will look for another club this winter in a bid to revive his fortunes.
