After the Michigan State football team switched coaches from Jonathan Smith to Pat Fitzgerald, the new Spartans head coach has a lot of work to do to keep the 2026 recruiting class together.
Lakewood (Ohio) and St. Edward’s product Brayden Thomas is one of the recruits Fitzgerald is responsible for keeping in the class. Thomas initially said he was going back to recruiting and evaluating his options. Now, he will sign with Michigan State University.

Michigan State originally released Thomas from Iowa State to earn a commitment from the Ohio State product. Thomas, 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, is a three-star recruit. In addition to Michigan State and Illinois State, he also had notable offers from Colorado State, James Madison and Toledo.
The decision came after the safety spoke with Fitzgerald.
