Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes played a key role in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa, providing two assists for Casemiro and Matheus Cunha.
His outstanding performance was highly praised by former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney in Match of the Day, saying that he was “a pleasure to watch and the best player in the league this season”.

Former Premier League midfielder Charlie Adam echoed this further on BBC Radio 5 Live Football’s daily podcast.
“He’s a top player,” Adam said. “We saw under Ruben Amorim that he shone through tough times but since Michael Carrick came in he has gone to another level.
“The fact is that the team has reached another level and they are ready for the Champions League.”
So can Fernandez continue to break the Premier League assist record this season?
He became Manchester United’s player with the most assists in a single season with 16 assists, one more than Beckham’s record of 15 assists set in the 1999-2000 season.

The Premier League record of 20 games is shared by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, so with 10 games left, Fernandes is expected to break that record.
